Mega888 Casino Hold'em: playing one hand against the dealer

The lobby calls it Hold'em, but the felt says CASINO HOLD'EM, and that's the right way to think of it. There are no other players to beat. You get two cards, the dealer gets two, five community cards are shared, and your best five-card hand is compared with the dealer's.

The table layout

The hero image shows the empty table. At the top left a small box shows the limits: MIN 0.5, MAX 1000. A card shoe sits on the left and a discard tray on the right, with a chip rack between them.

Two paytables are printed on the felt:

• AA Bet (left): Royal Flush 100 to 1, Straight Flush 50 to 1, 4 of a Kind 40 to 1, Full House 30 to 1, Flush 20 to 1, Straight or lower 7 to 1.
• Ante Bet (right): Royal Flush 100 to 1, Straight Flush 20 to 1, 4 of a Kind 10 to 1, Full House 3 to 1, Flush 2 to 1, Straight or lower 1 to 1.

The arc across the middle reads "Dealer's Qualifying Hand / Pair of 4s or Better". Below it are three betting positions, each with AA, ANTE and CALL circles. Chips from 0.5 to 1000 line the bottom edge, with CURRENT BALANCE in the corner.

The one decision

After the ante goes down, you see your two cards and the first three community cards. In this capture the player holds the 7 and 9 of hearts and the flop shows a 4, a 2 and a jack. Two buttons appear at the bottom right: Call and Fold. Calling puts more chips on the CALL spot and plays the hand out. Folding gives up the ante.

That is the whole strategy layer, and it matters: fold too often and the antes bleed away, call everything and you pay too much on weak hands.

Hand settled

Here the remaining two cards are dealt. Both the dealer's hand and the player's hand are labelled "One Pair". How ties and a non-qualifying dealer are paid isn't printed on the felt, so open the rules before you raise stakes.

Before you sit down
