The substitute rule
The banner above the reels reads "DOUBLE WINS WHEN SUBSTITUTING", next to a tiny portrait of a red-haired woman. That portrait is presumably the substitute (wild) symbol. When it stands in for another symbol to complete a line, the line win doubles.
The rule is printed on the main screen, which is more than many slots bother to do.

The gamble

Doubling six sen is harmless. Doubling a real win several times in a row is where sessions go wrong.
