Horse Derby 2015 GI (3Win8): betting on a two-horse finish

Horse Derby 2015 GI is a virtual race game in the 3Win8 lobby. There are no reels. You spread chips across a grid of horse pairs, six numbered runners go round an animated track, and the pair that finishes first and second is the result.

It plays in short rounds, and the prices on the grid range from single digits to four figures, so it pays to read the board before you bet.

The betting grid

In the hero image, numbered coloured tiles run along the top (6, 5, 4, 3, 2) and down the left side (1 to 5). Where a row meets a column, you get a box with a price. Some examples from this capture:

• 1 with 2: 80
• 1 with 3: 125 (with a 0.50 bet placed on it)
• 2 with 6: 1000
• 3 with 5: 100
• 5 with 6: 8

Those numbers change from race to race; a low number means the game rates that pair as likely. On the right, a LAST 5 RESULT column lists recent outcomes with the price each paid: 2-5 at 4, 1-4 at 5, 1-3 at 4 twice, and 2-5 at 60. Three labels sit mid-board: STARTER 6, SPRINTER 1 and FINISHER 2. The screenshot doesn't explain what they do.

The special symbols

The help card lists four specials:

• JACKPOT (a winged white horse): "Total Bets x100 for winner".
• JOKER (a rainbow horse): substitutes for all symbols except Jackpot, Multiplier and Free Number.
• FREE NUMBER (a gold horse): an extra number for the winner.
• Multiplier: x3, x5 or x7.

The race itself

The animation above shows the finish: jockeys in coloured silks on a dirt track, and the result 2-5 popped up in the middle. That pair paid 4 on the board, which is a reminder that the most common result pays the least.

Before you bet
