Feng Shen: the Investiture of the Gods theme on 918Kiss

Feng Shen takes its name and its cast from Feng Shen Bang, the old Chinese novel usually translated as The Investiture of the Gods. On 918Kiss it is a compact slot: five reels, three rows, and only nine paylines, which makes it one of the simpler games in the lobby to read.

The art does most of the work. Every symbol is a character portrait or a mythical creature, framed in a gold or blue ring, and a pair of stone guardians stands either side of the reels.

What's on the reels

In the screenshot above you can pick out a young woman in red, a young man with a blue headband, a white-bearded sage, a fiery phoenix and two blue beasts, one of them a horned, dragon-like creature. Above the reels sit five round stone medallions carved with Chinese characters that look like the five elements: earth, fire, water, wood and metal.

The second capture shows a win on the bottom row. A bronze tile marked WILD sits in the centre of the grid, and the winning symbols on the bottom row have turned into bright animated panels. The message bar reads "You won on 1 line" and "You won a total of 18", and a red DOUBLE button has appeared on the right.

The bet panel

The bottom strip is short: BAL (your credit), LINES with minus and plus buttons, and BET, also with minus and plus. A small note above reads "1 Bet per line". In both screenshots the lines are set to 9 and the bet to 9, so each spin costs nine units of credit. Dropping the bet is the easiest way to make a top-up last.

The jackpot boxes

Across the top are three counters labelled MINOR, RANDOM and MAJOR. They rise and fall between the two captures, which tells you they are shared pools. They are displays, not a promise; the screenshots say nothing about how they are awarded.

What we could not see
